Cloister

Terms of Use

Cloister · Effective 22 October 2026

These terms apply to your use of the Cloister app (the "app"), provided by Tom Plaes ("we"). By installing or using the app you agree to them.

Summary

  • You are responsible for your PIN and your data. There is no recovery key.
  • Premium subscriptions renew automatically until you cancel in your Apple ID settings.
  • The app is provided as is, without warranty.

1. Apple's standard terms

The app is licensed to you under Apple's standard license agreement, the Apple Standard EULA. These terms add to it. If they conflict, Apple's standard EULA governs the license, and these terms govern everything else.

2. What the app does

Cloister stores photos, videos and PDFs that you add in an encrypted vault on your iPhone. There is no account and no cloud storage. Read the Privacy Policy for what is and is not protected, including the information about the vault that is visible without your key.

3. Your data and your PIN

4. Free plan and Premium

The free plan holds up to 10 items. Viewing, exporting and deleting your items stays available. Premium removes the limit on new items. Premium is offered as a yearly subscription (with a 7-day free trial for eligible new subscribers), a monthly subscription, or a one-time lifetime purchase. Prices and trial eligibility are shown in the App Store at the time of purchase and can differ by country.

5. Subscriptions and payment

6. Acceptable use

Do not copy, reverse engineer or modify the app except as the law allows, and do not use it to store unlawful content.

7. No warranty

The app is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, to the extent the law allows. We do not promise that the app will be error free or uninterrupted, or that it will protect your data against every threat. A compromised or jailbroken iPhone, or anyone who knows your PIN, can reach your files.

8. Limitation of liability

To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for lost data, including data lost because of a forgotten PIN, a lost or reset iPhone, a backup restore or a deleted app, or for indirect or consequential losses. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law, including your rights as a consumer.

9. Changes and ending your use

We may update the app and these terms. If we change these terms, we will post the new version here and update the effective date. You can stop using the app at any time by deleting it, which deletes the vault on your iPhone.
