Cloister

Encrypted vault for iPhone

Your private photos, locked on your iPhone

Cloister keeps photos, videos and PDFs in an AES-256 encrypted vault. No account, no cloud, no tracking. Everything stays on your phone.

Free for 10 items. Requires an iPhone.

Private by design

Encrypted on your iPhone

Photos, videos and PDFs are encrypted with AES-256-GCM. File and album names are encrypted too.

Offline, no account

Nothing to sign up for and nothing to sync. There is no server, so there is nothing to leak from one.

No tracking, no ads

No analytics, no advertising and no tracking. Your files never leave the phone.

Yours to take back

Viewing, exporting and deleting your items is always free, even on the free plan.

How it works

  1. Create a PIN

Choose 6 to 12 digits. Add Face ID or Touch ID if you want a faster way in.

  2. Add your files

Pick photos, videos or PDFs. Cloister copies them into the vault and encrypts them. Your originals stay where they were until you delete them.

  3. Open them any time

Unlock, browse and view. The vault locks when you leave the app.

Our privacy promise

  • There is no account. You never sign up or log in.
  • Photos, videos, PDFs, file names and metadata are never sent to us or to any third party.
  • No ads, and no analytics or tracking in this version.
  • Apple and RevenueCat handle purchases. RevenueCat receives purchase identifiers and transaction status only, never your files.

What you should know. There is no recovery key: if you forget your PIN and Face ID or Touch ID is not set up, nobody can open your vault. Item counts and sizes are visible to anyone who can read the app's files, and iPhone backups include the encrypted vault files. See the full privacy policy.

Questions

Does Cloister send my files anywhere?

No. The app has no server and no backend. Your photos, videos and PDFs, and their names, stay on your iPhone. Read the privacy policy for the full detail.

What happens if I forget my PIN?

If Face ID or Touch ID is on, you can unlock with it and set a new PIN. If it is not set up, nobody can open the vault, including us. There is no recovery key, and the files in the vault are lost for good. Originals in Photos and Files are not affected.

What does the free plan include?

The free plan holds 10 items. Viewing, exporting and deleting your items is always free, even if you never upgrade. Premium removes the limit on new items.

Can I move my vault to a new iPhone?

Not through a backup. The key stays on the original iPhone, so a restored vault cannot be opened. Before you change phones, export your files from Settings, then import them on the new iPhone. Exported copies are not encrypted, so keep them somewhere safe.

Is everything about my vault hidden?

The content of your items, and file names and album names, are encrypted. The number and size of items, and when files last changed, are not hidden from someone who can read the app's files, for example in a device backup.

How do I cancel my subscription?

Subscriptions are managed by Apple. On your iPhone, go to Settings › Apple ID › Subscriptions, choose Cloister, and cancel.
